When you are designing a website there is always one recurring problem: The speed.
And this problem can be a real headache when like most of our clients, you got a basic shared server outside Vietnam, just like the one we are using to host vinaganda.com, kind of really slow sometimes, especially with one VNPT connection (why? I really don’t know!)
Of course there are fews tricks to improve the speed. And there is one trick that we will call : “perception of speed”.
Ta da!!!! You might ask yourself what the hell is that.
In fact it is quite simple, something for dummies. For example when you got a lot of images, by just adding a nice loader behind your image, the visitor get 2s feelings:
1- Something happen
2- It “seems” more faster, even if the page does not load any faster.
And what you need is just a gif loading image and 2, or 3 lines of CSS, like:
img {
background-color: #FFFFFF;
background-image: url(loader.gif);
background-repeat: no-repeat;
background-position: center center;
}
That’s all. Any delayed images will not give the feeling that something is broken.

Just a quick post to mention that we just launched the web site of Dr Spiller Viet Nam (leading German manufacturers of cosmetic skincare). Let’s call it a “pre lauch” as we are fixed few bugs and playing buddy-buddy with Internet Explorer 
Ah, and just for info: Starting tomorrow Google will get rid of the Internet Explorer 6 support. This is one small step for a man, one giant leap for the web design.
Anyway, got to say that it was a real pleasure to work with the Ladies of Dr Spiller and see their involvement in the project from day.

There is something that most of the people don’ t take seriously, and I mean: The email signature.
I do think that the email signature of Vinaganda is great! No ego, just it is as i expect an email signature to be: nice and useful.
Nice: Come on take a look at the screeshot. Hum? So? No fancy stuff, just getting the things done:
The dog is for the eye candy, you can miss it, and your eye catch it, confusing just enough to bring to your mind some curiosity, and so maybe you will click on the url.
No trying to act like a big corporate company, my title speaks for itself: No CEO, manager, designer.. and bla, bla, bla. No, I am a web chief cooker. Meaning that i try a lot of recipes before getting the meal ready.
Useful: It tell clearly what Vinaganda is, and its size : a tiny design; Not trying to be modest, but we need to be realistic and don’t give the wrong impression, we are not 10 or 20 folks doing web desing and making a living of it.

Just a quick post to talk about Jobber.vn.
As you noticed Jobber.vn is down and will stay down for a long time. I decided that it was time to let go this small project of mine that never really took off despite the positive feedback received from the users, and its awesome concept.
I took the opportunity of the renewal date of the hosting to just stop it.
If we got some time, maybe we might put it back, but under an other name finish with a .com . No need to worry about when and how, if it happens I will send a email to all the ones that used this service.
Sorry Folks. Time to move on others projects instead.

Note: As most of the clients of Freewheelin’Tours are french speakers, i decided to write this post in… French 
On m’ a souvent demandé ce qui ce passait avec le site de Freewheelin’Tours (Compagnie Bourlingue). Et bien c’ est très simple: On avance! Et tant mieux car l’ état actuel du site me dérange énormément et cela depuis le début.
Plusieurs choses a définir au niveau du contenu et des configurations de booking, mais le design est enfin prêt depuis quelque jours. Ci dessous une capture.
